When you save your project, the Environment gets saved along with it.
Any of the 16 PC3K channels should allow you to select a program by name. Now, when create a new track and choose External MIDI, you should see Kurzweil PC3K as a selectable destination. If you double-click on the object, you should see the list of program names organized by bank Choose MIDI Instr., then ImportĤ) This should create an obect named Kurzweil PCK3. Open the attached template file from wherever you have it savedģ) The environment dialog to Import Layer will show up. This should allow you to open a project file or template.
To bring the patch list into your own Logic Project, these seem to be the steps:ġ) Cmd-0 to open the Logic Environment (even this stressed me out, not sure why this needs to seem so complicated)Ģ) In the Environment window, choose Options on the menu bar, then Import Environment, Layer There doesn't seem to be a way to export or save an environment separate from an existing project. I fiddled with it until changing MIDI channels/programs on either the Kurz or Logic reflected the same program in the other.ģ) I saved the file as a Logic Project Template, and if you can find your Project Templates folder you should save it there to keep it seperate from your own projects. seems like the same process should work with other Kurz synths. Basically, it involves copying and pasting the program names into a MIDI instrument layer in the Environment. I'll attach a text file that I built that has the PC3K program names by bank. but it is time consuming, and seems needlessly complex.
This is a little frustrating because I wanted to use the same banks in Logic that the PC3K uses to access programs via the bank buttons, but at least you can get the program names to match up.Ģ) As near as I can tell, the process of bringing the patch names into the Environment isn't that complicated. There doesn't seem to be a way to offset this in either Logic or the Kurz, so your program numbers will always be off by one. For the basics, you shouldn't need to access the Environment.ġ) The MIDI standard for program changes is 0-127, and Kurzweil uses 1-128. Also: the below steps assume you already have your Kurz accessible via Logic and just need the patch names. This just has the factory programs no General Midi or user programs. No claims this is the "right" way to do it, it just seems to work for my setup. I'll try posting it here in case it helps someone else out. here's to resurrecting old threads!Ĭouldn't find an environment so spent some time creating one.
I got a PC3K some months ago, and it's surprising how little info I can find online for how to integrate it with Logic. Ideally I should be able to search for the external Kurzweil PC3 patches directly from within Logic - just as with Logic’s own patches, but that’s probably too ambitious -) I think I can rather easily create a list of factory presets on the PC3(x), but I have absolutely no idea how to make a file that Logic can use from such a list. Maybe we have smarter ways to do it today. Sorry to bring up such an old thread, but google just keep sending me to this.
